Premiership puzzle piece or square peg in a round hole?
Ben Hunt’s return to the Broncos has already divided many NRL fans, with some questioning how Brisbane can afford the representative playmaker.
It was revealed a secret supper orchestrated the Hunt heist that has seen Brisbane rocket into contention to win next year’s premiership.
Brisbane’s series of meetings convinced Hunt to reject the Dolphins and Roosters and embark on a Red Hill homecoming in his quest to smash the Broncos’ 19-year premiership drought.
The Broncos completed a Sydney ambush on Tuesday, securing Hunt to a two-year deal as the 34-year-old outlined his mission to deliver Brisbane’s first title since 2006.
And it was a trusty, old-fashioned, Aussie barbecue that turned the tide in Brisbane’s favour as the Broncos went back to the future with a carefully constructed plan to lure their man back to Red Hill.
The Broncos surged in betting markets from $17 to $8 to win the 2025 premiership following Hunt’s signing and the Queensland Origin star declared he is desperate to right the wrongs of Brisbane’s 2015 grand-final heartbreak.
However readers were quick to ignite debate about Hunt’s return.
Some asked if he would fix the wider issues at the club, however some backed him to join fellow veteran Adam Reynolds in a one-two playmaking punch.

Premiership? Not sure

Between Hunt and Reynolds, they have 70 years. Hopefully they can keep up. I’m looking forward to next season.

This boring story rates as well as the bold and the beautiful. A team effort wins a Grand Final not one or two players.

The Broncos don’t deserve Ben Hunt. Last time he was here the fans hated him.
Pat
Perhaps if they had more barbecues the Broncos will be more motivated to win a premiership. I always thought talent, ability & hard work won premierships. Silly me.
John-Arthur
he has done nothing in his football career so why would it be any different this time. he is a total waste of money the jinx.
Go Benny!

Hope he wins a comp next year at the Bronx. I felt so bad for him dropping that ball in 2015. He hasn’t been the same since
Allan
It wasn’t Ben Hunt’ s dropped ball that lost the GF. It was his lifting tackle a few minutes earlier and the resulting penalty that lead to the Cowboys getting down field and ending in Corey leaving his wing and Feldt scoring in the corner. Don’t blame Hunt. Without him, the Broncos would not have made the Grand Final.

Great to hear Ben has been signed by the Broncos. The fact that Billy Slater and Mal Meninga consider he is still one of the best 21 players for Queensland and Australia respectively surely means he has the skills, experience and attitude to significantly contribute to the Broncos for 2025 and 2026. Bring it on!
Michael
Hope they fire. Hunt brings a fair bit to the table, I think Ezra is better off in pub football while he has some ability. He’s not going to last long.
I’m confused

What happened to the NRL having player values and clubs not getting players for unders. Wasn’t he on plenty in 2025. Oh wait this only applies to certain teams
Diane
Doesn’t this still have to be approved by the NRL auditors? Last week we heard that he couldn’t be signed under value which was suggested to be $700-750k.
Paul
How can this be? Players have always argued that having a trade window and changing clubs in the off season won’t give them the time they need to move them and their families to the new club …
Stephen
Hardly a heist when Brisbane were the last team standing
