Mark Bailey has to resign.
That’s the overwhelming sentiment from 94 per cent of couriermail.com.au readers after the Transport Minister’s admission he withheld the true cost of the state’s flagship train manufacturing program.
After weeks of dodging questions on who knew what about the state’s train manufacturing program’s staggering climb in total cost – from $7.1bn to $9.5bn – Mr Bailey on Tuesday night admitted the blowout had been deleted from a draft press release provided to his office by the Transport and Main Roads department.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles on Wednesday morning said he “absolutely” has confidence in Mr Bailey – however readers expressed a very different view.

Imagine what the Olympics and across River Rail will really cost ….
Jim
Surely these lies by the Minister must be a sackable offence. When will it ever end!
Mark
she should also resign
Ed
This is the problem having career politicians running the country. They have no business experience and have no idea what is going on.
Carnbee
I am thoroughly underwhelmed by all this argy bargy. I am confident the real cost will be something different again ... and that depending on whether the comparison is to the early form of the contract; to the (maybe) current enlarged project estimate; or what eventually becomes the final form of the contract.
ARus
Sack him. Simple

Just imagine if this happened in private industry, the ramifications would be huge and almost criminal if shareholders had been misled. Mark Bailey should resign and it be determined if any misconduct has happened.

At least Labor is owning it. As distinct from the LNP who railroaded the hearings last time they were in to cover up their blowouts.
Graham
This Labor government promised transparency but it has not been transparent and not been honest with the Queensland people. This is a government that lies to all of us, wants to control us and tell us how to think – massive control of us through Covid lockdowns- will not answer legitimate questions and treats us all like idiots. Politicians who lie should be gone! Yes I know I’m dreaming!
Deslee
Surely if he was man enough he would resign immediately, how can you lie to the people who employ you (us) and still have his high paying job, Only in Qld. Jeff.
Aleeta
Just the tip of the iceberg I think. Bigger deceptions to come I am sure.
Gavin
And so it continues. Another failure from this pathetic government
The Joker
Palashay caught red handed lying to Qld. She knew the cost blow out of $2.4billion, signed off the deceptive press release designed to hide the fact, and then lied about knowing. Looked straight into the camera and said she have to re-check. We won’t hold our breath that she’ll do the honourable thing! Liar!
Rumball
I’m running out of words and wind to describe this merry go round of incompetence
