Phone ban in Queensland schools a ‘win-win for everyone’: Education Minister

It’s music to the ears of many teachers but Queensland’s blanket ban of public school students having phones has been met with a chorus of discontent.

As revealed in July students across the state will no longer be able to access their phones during school hours, with some exemptions to apply.

Here are all the details on how it will work, however couriermail.com.au readers are already having their say, with some accusing the government of being “shamed” into the decision.

So what about kids with medical devices that need to be connected to their mobile phones? I know of 4 kids with diabetes with monitors that must be tethered to a mobile phone and 1 12yo with a pacemaker what do they do?? That’s just in my granddaughters class bet there’s more around Queensland

They carry the collective knowledge and wisdom of the whole of mankind around in their pockets and what do they do with them?!

They need to be taught how to use them and how not to use them.

Allowing school phones with the offending applications removed would be much better.

What took you so long? Parents have been calling for this for ages and you kept sending it back to principals.

Finally after kicking and screaming this government has finally made a decision. The courier mail should be running this state. It’s because of the media that this government does anything.

We used to manage without smart phones. They have turned us into dumb people. Ban them in schools. While you are at it ban this one on one school drop off and pick up in cars. That does not need to happen.

Paul

Why the delay, should start from Monday when school resumes. I don’t see why children need 6 months notice.

So let’s also ban scissors and pencils because they can be dangerous too. Or….. teach students how to use phones responsibly. We seem to be able to teach prep students to use scissors responsibly.
