Opposition’s real war is making Qlders feel safe again

Queensland Premier predicts opposition win for next state election

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, David Crisafulli is living on cloud nine.

A relentless prosecution of the crime issue has already resulted in the government endorsing his policy to reinstate breach of bail as an offence and Premier Steven Miles delivered an unconvincing response Monday when asked if he’d concede more ground and remove detention as a last resort.

Mr Crisafulli has capitalised on the cut through of these two slogans and built a perception they’re the silver bullet to address more brazen crime happening in Queensland.

Politically, it’s effective – but beyond these two points there is little detail about how the LNP would drive down crime.

We’ve been promised more cops on the beat, but are as yet to see a target.

It hasn’t been clearly explained how a “gold standard early intervention” program would differ from what’s on offer now.

Motherhood statements about “fixing” the broken child safety system and “restoring consequence for action” won’t affect statistics – a detailed plan will.

Mr Crisafulli has pledged to provide this before the election and with six months to go, time is ticking.

While he’s winning the electoral battle, the real war is ensuring Queenslanders again feel safe in their homes.

In crime, the LNP is forcing Mr Miles to fight on their patch.

If he’s to have any chance of victory in October Labor must change the battleground.

It’s a huge ask.
