Opinion: Fear and smear is all Labor has left

While Labor continue to fight among themselves, the LNP is fighting for Queensland’s future, writes David Janetzki.

'The fight for the future of Queensland': Treasurer Cameron Dick on 2024 state election

Treasurer Cameron Dick’s 579-word manifesto in The Courier-Mail on Tuesday confirms the worst fears of Queenslanders.

That he spent the day desperately strategising how to stay in the internal leadership frame is a grave concession that chaos and crisis has now gripped every corner of the Palaszczuk government.

In fact, so chaotic are the internal relationships that the Treasurer didn’t even know the Premier was jetting off to Italy for two weeks!

But if the manifesto was the brightest vision the Treasurer could muster for Queensland, then this near-decade-old government has betrayed Queensland’s future.

His manifesto was not his vision for Queensland, it was the Treasurer’s ego manifesting the vision he has for himself.

The Treasurer made nine direct smear-laced references to the Leader of the Opposition in those 579 words.

In stark contrast, leader David Crisafulli and our team remain resolute in talking about the things that matter to Queenslanders.

Queensland is ground zero for the cost-of-living crisis, and everyone feels it.

Government service delivery failures continue to drive up the big bills lying on the kitchen table like power, insurance, health and rent.

Queenslanders want to feel safe as violent and indiscriminate crime continues across the state, driving up home and car insurance premiums.

Queenslanders want their government to resource a hospital bed for their hour of need, efficiently build infrastructure to cope with growth, and manage a housing market where the vulnerable have a roof and the aspiring have an opportunity.

Queenslanders understand that Labor has created generational debt for our children without any generational economic return.

That’s why we will introduce an Intergenerational Equity report.

We can’t let this wasteful spending and squandered opportunities continue.

We can expect more unhinged and irrational bile from the Treasurer in the year ahead.

Fear and smear is all they have left.

Annastacia Palaszczuk, Steven Miles, Shannon Fentiman and Cameron Dick can continue to fight each other for power – we will fight for Queenslanders and their future.
