Gabba development for 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games: What you say

Queenslanders can forget about watching cricket at the Gabba for a decade after 2025 – and it has left some seething.

Time lapse: Gabba transforms from AFL to NRL

Queenslanders can forget about watching cricket at the Gabba for a decade after 2025.

That was the grim warning from the sport’s administrators amid claims a lack of clarity from the state government ahead of the venue’s redevelopment for the 2023 Olympic Games.

“We are preparing ourselves for a worst-case scenario where cricket could face the loss of access to the Gabba for potentially greater than seven years during the period of demolition, construction and post-Games return,” Queensland Cricket boss Terry Svenson and chair Chris Simpson wrote.

Their concern was widely shared by couriermail.com.au readers, with some insisting alternative measures should be explored.

See what you had to say below.

No cricket is expected to be played at the Gabba for at least seven years while it undergoes reconstruction for the 2032 Games.

There is a perfectly good stadium at QE 2 with plenty of space around it where it wouldn’t interfere with schools and homes to upgrade it, oh I forgot it probably doesn’t go with cross river rail but I’m sure transport could be organised.
