Queenslanders can forget about watching cricket at the Gabba for a decade after 2025.
That was the grim warning from the sport’s administrators amid claims a lack of clarity from the state government ahead of the venue’s redevelopment for the 2023 Olympic Games.
“We are preparing ourselves for a worst-case scenario where cricket could face the loss of access to the Gabba for potentially greater than seven years during the period of demolition, construction and post-Games return,” Queensland Cricket boss Terry Svenson and chair Chris Simpson wrote.
Their concern was widely shared by couriermail.com.au readers, with some insisting alternative measures should be explored.
