Editorial: Candyman Travers Beynon’s twisted girlfriend demands

In a twisted wishlist posted online the so-called ‘Candyman’ includes directions that his multiple partners join him in what appears a DIY harem every night, demands his “girlfriends” not just be “attractive” and “bubbly” but above all submit to his regimen.

SELF-PROMOTING tobacco salesman Travers Beynon wants another “girlfriend”, but clearly not a healthy relationship.

In a twisted wishlist posted online the so-called Candyman includes directions that his multiple partners join him in what appears a DIY harem every night, demands his “girlfriends” not just be “attractive” and “bubbly” but above all submit to his regimen: “Drama is not welcome at anytime”.

“It is very important to maintain your presentation: this will include keeping your nails manicured, your hair styled, maintain a tan, having makeup done to a high standard, stylish clothing, eating well and keeping fit which will all be taken care of by Mr Beynon, an additional amount of $100.00 to $500.00 per week spending money will be given to you,” the advert says.

“The nightly sleeping arrangements consist of the master bedroom which has three adjoined kingsize beds which Travers shares with the girlfriends every night.”

And they must be “100 per cent confidential”, “totally loyal” and “willing to help out around the mansion”.

On so many levels, it is totally out of step with modern community standards.

It is toxic.

It is controlling.

Women must not only be physically attractive to be considered by Mr Beynon, they must submit to his control and whim.

They must be well groomed to his standards, and sleep in his daisy-chain of kingsize beds along with the other women seemingly in his thrall. And if you want to keep the trinkets, you keep your mouth shut.

It clearly fails to meet any modern standard of decency and should be called out. Women have the right to be more than just meat for men. Women have the right to make their own choices, control their lives.

It’s the wrong message to send to young women and girls that it would be a positive step to enter Beynon’s “mansion” on the promise of Insta-fame and a couple of hundred dollars a week.

Beynon assumes women will swap dignity for exposure and a Tiffany necklace.

Let’s be clear – women and men have a right to join any relationship they desire, join any activity that they see fit, as long as it involved adults and no-one is hurt.

This is not a relationship.

That the advert says would-be girlfriends have the right to leave his house begs the question as to why it must be included.

Such controlling behaviour is disturbing.

This cut-rate Hugh Hefner-wannabe’s antics – which began life as a way to gain exposure for himself and circumvent the tobacco advertising ban – have gone too far.

At a time when so much effort goes into changing attitudes towards women and abuse, Beynon’s attitudes, like his tobacco, is cancerous.
