Former premier Steven Miles, Treasurer David Janetzki in same Sunshine Coast cafe

A holidaying Steven Miles wasn’t the only politician in the room when he dropped in to a Sunshine Coast cafe for a coffee fix earlier this week.

It’s amazing who you bump into on holidays.

Steven Miles and his wife Kim dropped by Wynd Espresso Bar on King St at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast on Monday morning for a caffeine fix unaware Treasurer David Janetzki was at the back of the room.

Miles was in thongs and shorts and baseball cap and later headed to the beach with his three children who were waiting outside.

Janetzki was up the back in deep conversation with a mystery man. Perhaps he is on a Budget repair mission after the multibillion-dollar blowouts left by Miles and his ALP cohorts.

Did the two bitter rivals eyeball one another? Yes.

Janetzki turned to make eye contact, and the pair exchanged polite nods but did not converse, my eyewitness said.

Later, Opposition Treasurer Shannon Fentiman criticised Janetzki for being on holiday at the beach when he should have been working on a Budget statement.

“Fento”, as she was referred to in the paper this week (yuk), will no doubt replace Miles soon as ALP leader.

In the meantime I applaud “Fento” for providing me with some much-needed comic relief during the lazy days of summer.
