THE stunning revelation about Larissa Waters’ failure to reach citizenship requirements is yet another example of why the Greens are unfit to hold office.
It has been revealed that Waters has joint Canadian Australian citizenship, making her ineligible to sit in the Senate.
This is an embarrassing moment in Australian political life and follows the drama surrounding similar revelations concerning Scott Ludlam, the Greens deputy leader.
The Parliament is now faced with the onerous task of providing replacements for both these senators. This will be a costly exercise.
The most likely outcome in Queensland will see the return of Andrew Bartlett, a former senator with the Australian Democrats.
Bartlett was not the people’s choice to represent them in the Senate and he would be an unsuitable choice.
Surely the Greens and their selection committees knew of the dangers. Why did they not conduct proper searches on the backgrounds of their candidates?
