Bolt: Wong recklessly lavished taxpayer money on anti-Israel outfit UNWRA

After Labor’s lethal pandering to Muslim voters, Penny Wong deserves no credit for “temporarily” ending funding to the United Nations Works and Relief Agency.

Look at Penny Wong’s shocked face. Gosh, she had no idea she was sending millions of your taxpayer dollars to an outfit riddled with Islamist terrorists and their supporters.

No idea! No, despite years of warnings.

But now, too late, the Foreign Minister claims to be “deeply concerned” by allegations that staff of the United Nations Works and Relief Agency slaughtered Jews in the Hamas attack on October 7 that started this war with Israel.

In fact, she’s so “concerned” to hear she’s probably given our money to Jew-hating murderers and rapists that she’s “temporarily” stopped handing out the $6m she promised on January 16 to UNWRA, which helps so-called Palestinian “refugees”.

But the $20m she’s given UNRWA already after doubling its grant in 2022 is already gone – spent on UNRWA employees who include extremists who coached Palestinian children to fight Jews, and even helped kill them.

This is just the latest scandalous evidence of Labor’s lethal pandering to Muslim voters.

Wong deserves no credit for now ending – “temporarily” – the UNWRA funding. After all, this UN organisation itself last week admitted it had to sack “several” of its staffers – at least 12, actually – after evidence from Israel that they participated in the murder of Jews on October 7, and even drove UNRWA vehicles to the killings.

Other countries immediately ended or suspended their own UNRWA funding, including the US, Britain, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands. So Wong had to fall in, too.

Worse, Wong has known for years of allegations that our money to UNRWA has been hijacked by supporters of Hamas, a listed terrorist group that runs Gaza and started this war. If she didn’t, she’s frighteningly incompetent.

Just the very existence of UNWRA is an attack on Israel. It was set up to help the 700,000 Palestinians who left Israel ahead of the 1948 war launched by Arab armies to destroy the new nation. Bad luck for them, the Arabs lost.

Since then, thanks largely to high birthrates, there are now 5.9 million Palestinians registered with UNRWA as “refugees” under its ludicrously broad definition, even though the vast majority weren’t even born in 1948.

No other “refugees” get a UN organisation just for themselves 78 years later, nursing the fantasy of a “right of return” instead of encouraging them to get on with their lives.

UNRWA is now a grievance industry that generates $1bn a year in donations. It’s also largely captured by Palestinian staff, employing 30,000 of them, including 13,000 in terrorist-controlled Gaza.

Not surprisingly, Palestinian teachers employed by UNRWA have repeatedly been caught preaching Jew hatred and using atlases showing Israel literally wiped off the map.

How could Wong have overlooked all this?

In 2016, the documentary UNRWA Road to Terror even showed Palestinian children explaining what they were being taught in UNRWA schools. The students say “they teach us that the Zionists are our enemy”, “they teach us that the Jews are terrorists”, “they teach us in school the Jews are fickle, bad people”, and “we have to constantly stab them”.

“Stabbing and running over Jew brings dignity to the Palestinians,” adds one boy. Another says he’s working to become a suicide bomber.

Yet Wong still gave UNRWA another $20m in 2022.

There have since been multiple allegations of Hamas looting UNWRA aid, including by UNWRA – which then hastily denied its own claim. At the very least, the aid freed Hamas to use its own cash on weapons, not welfare.

If her first handout was wilful blindness, check Wong’s response since October 7.

Last November, the lobby group UN Watch proved 20 UNRWA teachers and other staff celebrated the October 7th massacre of Jews on social media accounts, including a Telegram channel of 3000 UNRWA teachers, praising the killers as “heroes” and “martyrs”.

Israeli soldiers also found and filmed entrances to war tunnels Hamas had dug in or next to UNRWA school grounds.

Yet just two months later Wong still promised UNRWA yet another $6m.

But be fair. This time she did ask the famously corrupt Palestinian Authority that controls the West Bank if it could – pretty please – make sure “those funds would be used appropriately”.

What a joke. Even if the PA were honest, it can’t control Hamas or Gaza.

No, Wong recklessly lavished our money on a fundamentally anti-Israel organisation employing terrorists and their supporters.

Her temporary suspension of our aid comes too late. How much of Wong’s millions is already in the hands of killers?
