Donald Trump is America’s president again – back almost literally from the dead – and we’re now going to learn how much we were lied to.
No, not by Trump. By the Democrats and much of the media.
That’s what will make this loss so devastating for the Democrats. That’s why it will also be the final blow to what’s left of any credibility the mainstream media still had.
Kamala Harris’s entire campaign was based on a monstrous lie: that Trump was a Hitler fan and she was “fighting for democracy”.
Her running mate, self-confessed “knucklehead” Tim Walz, called Trump a “dictator” who would “overturn the Constitution”.
All over America’s mainstream media pundits claimed Trump was a fascist, would use the army to round up his critics.
Why, he could even murder them.
“Trump Calls for Liz Cheney to be Executed by Firing Squad,” shrieked one of many similarly deceitful headlines, after Trump simply suggested one pro-war critic be sent to the front lines herself to see what she wanted soldiers to face.
It was all a hoax, dangerous and deranged. Don’t just take it from me that Trump is no Nazi. Take it from the people who swung this election for Trump – all those extra black, Latino and Jewish voters. Some Nazi, getting their votes.
Yet the lie worked dangerously well: an NBC exit poll showed more than half the Harris voters said their top issue was the state of America’s democracy.
But here’s my tip, after consulting the evidence, common sense and three people who worked intimately with Trump as his spokesman, chief of staff and Attorney-General — a Hitler? Rounding up his enemies? Trump won’t do any of that. Nor will he do all the other horrible things Harris, Walz and their media allies claimed: ban abortion everywhere, ban IVF and ban contraception.
Yes, the man is crude, impulsive, self-obsessed and too quick to praise despots like Vladimir Putin.
But he’ll just try do what he said — secure the borders, cut taxes, cut red tape, defend Israel, stand up to China and Iran, and drop restrictions on fracking and drilling for gas.
With a little luck, America’s economy will grow as well as it did in Trump’s first go as president and not one freedom will be lost. Free speech could get even freer.
The great lie of the Democrat campaign will be exposed.
So what will the Democrats say about the next Republican candidate that could match their fake alarms about Trump?
Having been so ludicrously over-the-top in this campaign, who’ll believe their hysteria in four years when Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, will almost certainly be the Republican nominee, having starred as the most impressive candidate of the four in this campaign, beating Trump, Harris and goofball Walz for charm, composure and policy smarts?
The loss of the Democrats’ credibility will be one thing. Worse will be the infighting as the insiders flee like cockroaches from this campaign wreck.
How did they end up with a candidate as hopeless as Harris?
She is so vacuous that she didn’t dare call a single press conference in the entire campaign.
This is a vice president so incompetent that up to 10 million illegal immigrants crossed the US border after she was put in charge of turning off the tap.
This is a politician so spineless that she ran a pro-Israel ad for Jews in Pennsylvania and a pro-Palestinian one for Muslims in Minnesota.
This is a candidate so weak that she got not one vote when she ran for the Democrat nomination four years ago, and only won the nomination this time because Joe Biden was finally revealed in his debate with Trump to be mentally incapable of running again, and it was allegedly too late to choose anyone but his vice president.
Never mind that she was until then a national joke, with an approval rating in the polls down of just 16 per cent.
Faceless Democrats ruled out an open vote for Biden’s replacement at the Democrat convention, over the reported objections of former president Barack Obama, and these great defenders of democracy foisted Harris on their party.
Then came the makeover. The party grandees now hailed this dud vice president as democracy’s saviour. Her inane cackle was sold as the music of a campaign selling “joy”. Her handlers kept her away from the media.
And most of the media went along with the con, pretending it was smart for Harris to dodge interviews, instead of concluding it was a sign of her immense stupidity that she had to.
It is terrifying to think how close American voters came to accepting as their next president someone so incapable of leadership that their country’s enemies – enemies of our freedom, too – would have had her for dim sum.
What a tribute to the power of the media to still be able to sell a lie, but thank God this plot has been foiled.
Let the lesson of this great escape be learned. Let the liars in the Democrats and the media be named and shamed, because never can America afford to risk this peril again.
