Forty-Five people have been arrested in Alice Springs since December 31 as part of Operation Ludlow, bringing the total arrests to 225.
Operation Ludlow launched on November 14 last year – as opposed to its planned December start date – and is targeted at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the Red Centre.
In a video uploaded to Facebook on Wednesday afternoon, NT Police southern commander James Gray-Spence provided an update into the operation, highlighting a busy start to 2025.
“We’ve so far seen 225 arrests for Operation Ludlow and more than 140 drone deployments in Alice Springs, continuing to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour,” Mr Gray-Spence said.
On Monday, a rotation of 10 police officers from South Australia arrived in Alice Springs to assist NT Police after Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said crime had escalated to “crisis levels” in the NT.
Mr Gray-Spence said there would be four rotations of SA police, with the first being briefed and having received a “full local induction” on Tuesday.
“[They] were on the beat working till 7pm yesterday (Tuesday) evening,” he said.
“Each one of the South Australians will be buddied up with a Northern Territory Police officer and they’ll be working together and supporting each other until the beginning of February, continuing the great work of Operation Ludlow.”
Mr Gray-Spence also provided an update to an incident that occurred at 4am on Wednesday where six people – three youths and three adults – were arrested in connection to a burglary to a licensed premises.
He said the offenders would be “dealt with” later on Wednesday.
Operation Ludlow is due to finish on January 28, “when school goes back after the peak holiday period,” Mr Gray-Spence said.
