The Waratah women have sent off their season on the right foot with a comfortable victory against the Darwin Buffaloes.
The Buffettes were fighting for a finals berth mere weeks ago but a decline in form gave Waratah a shot at the victory.
And the Tahs took it, claiming their fifth win of the season in their 7.3 (45) to 2.0 (12) win at Gardens Oval.
Waratah had only once before the Christmas break but some key ins and an improved buy-in from the young group helped them rally for the latter half.
Against the Buffaloes it was some of their usual standouts such as Madeline Jeans, Lilly Rydon and Ruby O’Dwyer who helped take control of the game.
Laura Smith was integral in front of goal with her two goals at the end of the first quarter pushing out of the lead.
The Buffettes had two goals by half time, through Bianca Stokes, and that would be their only score for the entire game.
Waratah kicked on from there and didn’t look back as their home field advantage helped them push on, capped off by two late goals from Jeans to secure the win.
PREVIEW
It’s the last chance for success and an opportunity to end the campaign with a win with the Darwin Buffaloes and Waratah set to close out their NTFL seasons.
The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of the clash from 1.30pm on Saturday.
It’s not quite been the season these sides have become known for in the women’s competition with both having played finals in recent years.
But they are both rebuilding teams who have still managed to put up fights at separate points of the season indicative of their form of the past.
The Buffettes had some strong bursts of form coming out of the Christmas break where they smashed finals bound Tiwi and were one point off beating table toppers PINT.
VFLW best and fairest winner Dom Carbone was crucial in those matches, but there’s talent elsewhere including two time best and fairest winner Molly Althouse and Roxy Beuzeville.
Waratah also lifted in form out of the big break beating Tiwi and getting some dominant wins against Wanderers and Districts.
The other sides have been more difficult prospects and, after a 4.8 (32) to 0.2 (2) loss to the Buffettes last time they played, there is a want to keep improving.
Brittany Daly is crucial leading the squad while the likes Jamilla Cranny and Ruby O’Dwyer continue to prove their talents.
The full match replay will be available at the conclusion of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
