12-year-old missing boy from Alice Springs found in Coober Pedy, 23yo man arrested

A 12-year-old boy who went missing in Alice Springs has been found more than 600km away in a remote South Australian town, as police arrest a man.

A 12-year-old boy who went missing in Alice Springs has been found more than 600km away in a remote South Australian town, as police arrest a man.

NT Police on Thursday afternoon said the 12-year-old was last seen at 8.40am on February 28, 2025, heading to Braitling Primary School in Alice Springs.

On Friday afternoon police said he was found “safe and well” in the Coober Pedy area in South Australia, about 687km south of Alice Springs with a man “believed” to be known to the boy.

The man, aged 23, was arrested by SA Police and is yet to be charged.

He remains in police custody, NT Police said.

NT Police said the man is “believed to be known to the boy”.

A South Australia Police spokesperson said the man was arrested on “an interstate warrant” and will appear in court on Monday.

The location of the court was not specified.

When the boy did not make it to his class on Thursday morning, police issued a notice stating they held concerns for his welfare.

Police said initial investigations had indicated the boy was in the company of someone “known to him”.
