NT Police: Alleged thieves steal jewellery, assault Alice Springs resident

NT Police are searching for two alleged jewellery thieves after they robbed and assaulted an Alice Springs resident.

Teen boys allegedly stole jewellery and assaulted a person in their home during an Alice Springs robbery, NT Police said.

Police said the two boys allegedly broke into the East Side residence on Kurrajong Drive about 9.45am Wednesday.

They said the boys were between 15 and 17 years old.

Police said one wore a black shirt with long brown sleeves, a grey hoodie, and a black baseball cap.

They said the second teen was wearing a black shirt with knee-length black shorts.

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number 10316343.

Strike Force Viper is investigating the incident.

Nursing home staff catch alleged thieves

A team of nursing home staff barricaded three boys in an office after the trio allegedly stole money from the property.

NT Police said the boys – aged 14 and 16 – broke into an Alice Springs nursing village at about 2.45am on Tuesday.

They said the trio allegedly stole cash from the home as well as items from another location.

The boys were arrested and have been charged with multiple property offences, including unlawful entry, stealing, criminal damage, possession of stolen property, and serious breach of bail.

They will appear in court at a later date.

Excavator stolen from Alice Springs worksite

An excavator stolen from an Alice Springs worksite has sparked a police investigation.

NT Police said the missing excavator was pinched from a site near Roe Creek between March 29 and April 4.

They said the CASE five tonne machine was black and orange.

Police said two excavator buckets were also stolen.

Kids linked to business break-in, stolen cash

Two boys arrested for alleged serious breach of bail could be linked to a reported Alice Springs break-in.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Andrew Heath said an Elder St business was allegedly broken into shortly before midnight Sunday.

He alleged “a couple of kids” stole cash from the property.

Mr Heath said two boys were arrested throughout the night after they allegedly breached their curfew.

“One of the youths had some cash on him, so we think that might be related to the break-in on Elder Street,” he said.

“That will be followed up by Strike Force Viper today.”

Commercial break-ins in Alice Springs are up 54.59 per cent year-on-year, with 875 reported between February 1, 2022 and January 31 this year.

There were 566 commercial break-ins reported for the same period the year before.

Mr Heath said the night was “reasonable” despite the reported disturbances.

“It’s been pretty good, but there were no licensed premises open last night, so there’s been nothing for the youths to walk around and have a look at,” he said.
