A boost to teacher levels in the Northern Territory has been welcomed ahead of term one – with a number of ‘new’ principals also making their way to the north.
One hundred and forty six teachers and 23 principals will help expand the young minds of the Northern Territory’s students in 2025.
The new teachers will this week undergo orientation sessions ahead of the start of term one.
It was not specified which schools the teachers and principals would be working at, nor if they were filling in for educators on extended leave.
Minister for Education and Training Jo Hersey said the Country Liberal Party would continue to prioritise improving the Territory’s education system “for all students”.
“Territory schools are the heart of our communities, and we want to focus our efforts as a government to support our teachers to deliver the absolute best education to every child in every school,” Ms Hersey said.
At a press opportunity on Wednesday thanked the newcomers for the important work ahead of them, and for making the “commitment” to be part of the NT.
“Our new teachers who come from interstate will soon learn the Northern Territory has Australia’s best lifestyle, and I hope they enjoy every minute, put down roots in our communities, and stay to contribute to our future.”
The orientation allows new teachers to get a handle on the Territory’s education priorities, and connects them to resources that will help them in their jobs – both remote and closer to Darwin and other more populated areas.
