Some extra special guests will be making an appearance at the 2024 Alice Springs Show – courtesy of the hard work of some NT Correctional Services finest craftsmen.
This year, attendees to the show will be able to meet – and maybe even taken home – Bluey and the Minions, who will be on display at the NT Correctional Services stand.
Bluey and the minions are one of a handful of statues which were created by prisoners from the Alice Springs Correctional Centre, all of which are available for purchase during the show.
Other creations include windmills, dragonflies, cacti, animals and much more.
NT Correctional Services Commissioner Matthew Varley said the Territory's correctional services offered prisoners a number of different training programs to enable them to be job ready once their sentence is completed.
“Prison industries provides prisoners with meaningful work that equips with them with practical skill, discipline and training that are essential for reintegration in community,” he said.
“These skills improve their prospects upon release, increasing their employability and reducing the likelihood of reoffending.”
