What your elite Sydney suburb says about you

Some of these postcodes are the stuff of dreams so let us unpack what these lucky locals are like. SEE WHICH SUBURBS MADE THE LIST.

Meet Sydney’s new Real Housewife

We know Sydney is expensive.

In fact, it has even been labelled “impossibly unaffordable”, second only to Hong Kong.

Here, cafes will slug you $6 for a small flat white without blinking an eye, a daily commute can cost up to $18.70 – before it is generously capped – and our youth are kept awake at night wondering if they will ever be able to buy property in their home city.

But if you are one of the 1 per cent and really live up to Sydney’s glitzy reputation, here is what your elite suburb says about you (tongue firmly in cheek).

Double Bay

AKA Double Pay … home to stunning waterfront views, exclusive boutique shopping and cars that cost more than what is currently in my super account. Double my super.

If you are lucky enough to live here, you’re either in your grandparents’ clever pre-1960s investment or you’re rich rich.

You are one of the beautiful people. And if you’re not, how convenient is it that some of Sydney’s most high profile plastic surgeons are practically at your doorstep?

Now the Intercontinental Double Bay is no more, those pesky paparazzi are long gone.

Point Piper

Your neighbours are former Prime Ministers, titans of industry and society darlings. We assume your house is stunning, but who can tell what it looks like behind those Fort Knox-style gates?

For us mere mortals the median house price along Wolseley Rd is an incomprehensible $45 million.

Could one buy an entire suburb for $45 million? An island? A superyacht? Perhaps. But only you and your neighbours really know the answer to this question.

Bellevue Hill

Quite literally has a road named Mansion Rd.

Enough said about Australia’s priciest postcode.

Hunters Hill

Limited buses, no trains – and that’s just how you like it. You spend your days on the tennis court – yours, of course – even though one of the oldest tennis clubs in the country is just down the road.

Camellias are very much your thing. You are genuinely thrilled that you have your own dedicated local council. And you were desperate to catch a glimpse of your former neighbour Cate Blanchett before she moved out of the locale.

Killara

You came for the proximity to private schools and stayed for the green space, heritage architecture and huge blocks.

Where else would you find a home with room for a pool, cabana, tennis court, and parking space for the AMG, Range Rover and Golf GTI (complete with red P-plates)? Sure there’s a train line close by, but that’s for other people’s kids.

Some trivia for the uninitiated: mining magnate Lang Hancock married his housekeeper Rose Porteous in one of the incredible mansions along prestigious Springdale Rd in 1985.

Palm Beach/Whale Beach

You basically live on the beach; it’s just a few steps from your front door. But why bother when you have an infinity pool overlooking the beach? This is really helpful on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday when you don’t leave your mega-mansion (that’s when the Home and Away tourist buses descend on Summer Bay/Palmy).

The furthest stops beyond the Bilgola bends are a celebrity haunt – Danish royals Queen Mary and King Frederik, supermodel Jennifer Hawkins, legendary rock star Mick Jagger, and even Kourtney Kardashian have played and holidayed there.

One of Sydney’s most famous restaurants is just a little way up the hill, so when you don’t feel like cooking it’s a good option for an easy meal.

Wahroonga

The epitome of a leafy suburb, Wahroonga has it all: green space, a plethora of elite private schools, Chookas, more than one place to get an acai sundae and a real estate agency every few footsteps. Convenient!

It very much does depend on which side of the highway you live, but your curly-coated champagne oodle doesn’t care too much.

He’s just happy that he doesn’t have to wear a glittery custom collar and lead set. And his name is either Archie, Charlie or Toby. The good thing is that if you lose him, just call one of those names and a curly-coated champagne oodle will come running.

Or perhaps try “Bella” or “Luna!”

Cherrybrook/Glenhaven

The Hills incubated and are home to the Hillsong megachurch (the clue is in the name) so assume any American living there is attending nearby Hillsong College or working for Hillsong.

Hillsong Church originated in the Hills and its founders were longtime residents.

Moving out of home without an engagement ring is considered taboo.

Very few people make it out alive/single.

Erskineville

Want the proximity to King Street without the noise?

Here you will find slick designer townhouses, hip cafes and good dog people … except for the few concrete cowboys who insist on owning (desperately bored and anxious) working breeds.
