A wanted man with numerous warrants who had eluded police has been apprehended in a Northern Rivers raid before he was hit with several charges.
A wanted man with numerous warrants who had eluded police has been apprehended in a Northern Rivers raid before he was hit with several charges.
Ochre David Wood, 23, faced Magistrate Karen Stafford from custody in Bail Division Court on Thursday.
Defence solicitor Rod Behan requested the matter be listed in Ballina the following week to allow him to take instructions for entering pleas.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
Ms Stafford agreed with Wood being held in custody and said a breach was established while Wood was on curfew.
“I concede, there was a breach – it’s not opposed,” Mr Behan said.
Police allege Wood was wanted regarding several incidents they allege occurred in the Ballina and Mullumbimby region between October and December.
After numerous operations by Richmond and Tweed/Byron officers to locate Wood, in which one occasion police allege a police vehicle was rammed, Operation Philvor was initiated in November by Rural Crime Investigators.
The Operation was launched to investigate alleged linked offending and to locate Wood.
After establishing intel about 4.30pm on Wednesday, police raided a home on Westland Place at West Ballina.
Officers apprehended Wood as he was allegedly attempting to leave.
He was arrested and taken to Ballina police station where seven outstanding warrants were then executed for his lengthy list of charges police allege is linked to an assault and several property and traffic offences.
Wood was ordered to appear in Ballina Local Court via audiovisual link on December 18.
