Police are investigating a devastating crash at a hospital in Sydney’s west, which killed two people instantly and left another in shock.

Two people were pronounced dead at Nepean Hospital on Thursday afternoon after a driver hit a pedestrian in the carpark.

It is understood the 55-year-old female driver of the car lost control of the white Nissan Pulsar about 3.20pm on Parker St, slamming into a brick wall and causing a crash that killed both them and the other person.

It’s believed the driver suffered a medical episode, reversing into another car while attempting to exit the hospital via a boom gate, before crashing into the pedestrian, a 59-year-old woman.

“About 3.20pm, emergency services were called a hospital carpark on Derby St, Kingswood, following reports of a crash,” a statement issued by NSW Police on Thursday evening read.

“On arrival, officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were told a 55-year-old woman had allegedly reversed her car into another car, before accelerating and hitting a 59-year-old female pedestrian.

“The driver and pedestrian were both assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver of the other car – a 23-year-old woman – was treated by hospital staff for shock.”

Video from the scene showed the vehicle lodged in between a concrete pillar of the carpark and a brick wall of the hospital building.

White towels had been placed over the car windows.

Barry Willick was walking by the scene of the crash while emergency services were present and was shocked to hear the news of the fatal incident.

“How the hell could this I happen? I can’t believe it,” Mr Willick said. “It’s crazy it really is.”

Mr Willick said he had never seen an incident of this nature before in the area.

“We all lose patience at the boom gates but that’s just ridiculous,” he said.

Radiographer Matthew Guirguis was leaving his workplace just around the comer from Nepean Hospital on Thursday evening.

“It’s scary, it could’ve been me or my colleagues,” he said.

Mr Guirguis said his staff were shocked by the news.

“This is so terrible for the families — hearing it’s a woman in her forties makes it even more upsetting,” he said.

He said if the tragedy was the result of a medical episode then it was a freak episode, “out of their control”.

“If it’s a lack of patience, it makes it even more sad,” Mr Guirguis said.
