A truck hauling booze across regional NSW has burst into flames, with the fire spreading rapidly to nearby grassland.

The B-double truck caught alight about 4.30am Friday on Caswell St, Peak Hill, according to the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS).

Fire and Rescue NSW and RFS fire crews arrived to find both trailers ablaze with “large flames”.

An RFS spokeswoman said the truck was carrying a “mixed load,” including alcohol, with the fire growing large enough to ignite surrounding grassland.

However, firefighters quickly contained the spread.

The RFS spokeswoman said the truck driver was fortunately uninjured, but shaken.

Authorities are now assessing the damage, which appears to be extensive.

Investigations into how the blaze was started have commenced.
