Teen hospitalised after machete attack at house party in Chifley, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs

Police are on the hunt for a group of up to 10 people armed with machetes, who they believe set upon a 16-year-old boy who was attending a house party in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

A teenage boy has been hospitalised after he was stabbed in what’s believed to be a targeted attack involving machetes at a house party in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to Carnegie Circuit, Chifley, about 8.20pm on Saturday night following reports of a stabbing.

Police were told a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were standing out the front of the house when they were approached by a group of about 10 people – two of whom were armed with machetes.

The younger teen was assaulted and stabbed before the group fled the scene. The 18-year-old man was not injured.

Paramedics treated the boy for lacerations to his back and legs before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

A large police operation was launched in response, with officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command joined by the riot squad as they locked down the street and questioned neighbours and teens at the scene.

Teenagers observed from a second storey window as dozens of police officers swarmed the suburban street littered with empty beer bottles.

Police searched under cars and in the gardens of neighbours for clues to the attack, teen partygoers dressed in hoodies and furs congregating on the street as nearby residents looked on.

Private hired security guard Ayman said the aftermath of the attach was “chaotic, very loud (with) a lot of swearing”.

“I just saw a group of around five or six boys coming from down the street all in ski masks and holding weapons,” he said.

“Apparently that was the theme of the party, so I thought initially they were actually from the party but it turns out they weren’t invited.”

Ayman said he heard the boys cursing and asking people to come out as “they had issues with someone in the party.”

“They called him out to come and he came, and they stabbed him down the road.”

A crime scene was established and investigations are underway.

In a statement, police said initial inquiries suggest the attack was targeted.

Police are urging anyone with information – or dashcam or mobile footage from the area at the time – to come forward as inquiries continue.
