Tamworth man charged over allegations he paid to stream live abuse of children overseas
A months-long investigation has led to the arrest of a Tamworth man accused of purchasing live child abuse material from overseas sources.
A 69-year-old Tamworth man has been arrested and charged after detectives alleged he paid for and streamed the live abuse of children overseas as part of an ongoing NSW Police investigation.
Sex Crimes Squad detectives from the Child Exploitation Internet Unit, launched inquiries in July 2025, following a referral from the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
The referral related to a man suspected of purchasing live child abuse material from the Philippines.
Following months of investigation, officers arrested the man at a home in West Tamworth about 8.20am on Monday.
A search of the property allegedly uncovered electronic devices containing child abuse material.
He was taken to Tamworth police station and charged with multiple offences.
These included three counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material; using a carriage service to make child abuse material available and three counts of possessing child abuse data via a carriage service.
He was also charged with two counts of possessing child abuse material and possessing or attempting to possess a prescribed restricted substance.
Police will allege in court that the man made payments to individuals in the Philippines to stream and record the live sexual abuse of children.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing operation targeting the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through online platforms and telecommunications networks.
