Trains along the Sydney T1 line were brought to a halt after a police pursuit ended with a car stranded on the train tracks.
About 10.55pm Friday, officers attached to the Cumberland Police Area Command attempted to stop a white 4WD with reportedly stolen number plates travelling along Emert Street, Wentworthville.
Police initiated a pursuit after the driver allegedly failed to stop, following the vehicle until it ploughed through a mesh fence and onto a rail corridor near Wentworthville Station.
Police said in a statement, two men were seen running from the stranded vehicle.
A resident near the site of the crash said they heard a loud bang followed by police sirens.
“The car came down the street really quickly and went through the fence,” local resident Pavan said.
“Then the police came and emergency vehicles.”
Sydney Trains issued an alert at about 11.20pm warning late night commuters that trains were not running along the T1 line due to the stuck vehicle and that alternative services were being organised.
However by early Saturday morning, trains were running according to their regular schedule.
No arrests have been made at this time and there are no reports of injuries.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
