Sydney motorbike hoon crackdown results in one arrest, 50 fines

Two hooning motorcycle riders are under police investigation with one of the men slapped with a slew of charges related to dangerous driving.

Police were on the prowl for dangerous driving on Friday and Saturday night as part of their operation Furious. As a result, one man was arrested, 25 people fined for speeding and 50 other infringements.

Cops on the roads were assisted by the police helicopter and the dog unit.

Two alleged hoons are under investigation and 25 speeding fines issued as part of a police crackdown on dangerous motorcycle riders in Sydney.

NSW Police Inspector Tina Davies said those who treat the roads as a race track will be targeted.

“We all have the right to feel safe when driving on our roads. Police will continue to target high performance and unregistered motorcycles through similar future operations,” said Insp Davies.

Leading up to one man’s arrest officers spotted a group of riders travelling at high speeds on the Hume Highway around 10.20pm, in the Villawood area.

Cops on the roads were assisted by the police helicopter and the dog unit and focused on areas near Greenacre, Punchbowl, Wiley Park and Bass Hill.

Police and PolAir followed the group before two of the riders turned off on Henry Lawson drive. The pair allegedly travelled at high-speeds and ran red lights.

One of the riders, a 22-year-old man, was arrested out the front of a home on Bungalla St, Sadlier, and was taken to Liverpool Police Station for questioning.

He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, motor vehicle exceeding speed more than 45 km/h, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, not comply with P1 licence - no P plates, and use vehicle with number plate obscured/defaced.

He will appear in Liverpool Local Court on July 14.

Police also managed to track down the other rider who was seen travelling with the 22-year-old down Henry Lawson drive.

He was spoken to by officers outside a home on Rose St, Liverpool. Police found a Kawasaki motorcycle and helmet at the venue. They were seized for further examination.
