EXCLUSIVE: A scandal has erupted at a Sydney dance school following allegations an instructor had engaged in inappropriate behaviour with students.
The allegations against the woman were made via an anonymous complaint in June, triggering an immediate investigation at the dance school.
It’s understood the unproven allegations related to drugs and sex acts with at least one student.
In a statement to The Sunday Telegraph, the dance school said it “acted immediately” and placed her on immediate and extended leave.
The woman denied the allegations and, according to the dance school, attempts to gain further details of the alleged incidents from the informant were unsuccessful.
The Sunday Telegraph was made aware of the allegations by parents of children enrolled in classes at the facility, who said “everyone was talking about it”.
“It’s blown up,” one parent said. “Everyone has heard these allegations, and we are obviously a bit worried.
“Obviously nothing is proven but it frightens you as a mum that something could have happened that involves child.”
Another parent with knowledge of the allegations said she was pleased with the school’s response to the claims.
“Look no one knows if it’s true, but they did the right things and took steps to look out for the kids,” they said.
The instructor was listed as a staff member on the dance school’s website until Thursday morning, when we contacted the owner of the high-profile establishment for comment on the allegations.
Her profile was removed shortly after, while more recent videos from social media involving the teacher were seemingly also removed.
“The casual instructor denied the allegations and was placed on an immediate extended leave of absence … the casual instructor has not been engaged since,” a statement from the school read.
A spokesman for the dance school said a report was made to the Child Protection Helpline following the allegations, though it’s understood the school did not contact NSW Police.
