Police have allegedly uncovered millions of dollars worth of contraband cigarettes and vapes after pulling over a speeding truck, making a significant dent in the black market trade.
The truck was only over the speed limit by 10kmh or less, but the cost to the driver could be more than what he bargained for.
Anhar Sabah, 32, was arrested and charged with goods in custody, restricted substance sold by a non-wholesaler, and exceed speed limit 10km and under.
The truck came to Forster highway patrol officers’ attention about 10.45am on Monday when they stopped it on the Pacific Highway at Possums Brush, after detecting the vehicle was speeding.
They then performed an inspection of the truck and allegedly found a staggering $3m haul of illicit cigarettes and vapes inside.
Police allegedly found more than 20,000 individual vapes and more than 1,600,000 cigarettes, with an estimated street value of more than $3,200,000.
Sabah faced Forster Local Court on Tuesday where he was refused bail.
His next appearance is set for January 28.
