Spectacular fireworks show planned to showcase Sydney Harbour for NYE
The mastermind behind our New Year’s Eve fireworks reveals what we can expect counting down to 2026, including nine tonnes of fireworks and 25,000 pyrotechnic shots across the harbour.
New Year’s Eve revellers will be in for a booming firework display showcasing Sydney’s unique character and culture to a global audience.
This year’s fireworks will cover the largest area yet shooting from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, six city centre buildings and eight platforms on the harbour.
The city will also see dazzling effects launched from six aerial pyrotechnic platforms (drones) hovering above the water.
Foti International Fireworks creative director Forch Foti told the Daily Telegraph Glebe Island will be a launching base for the second year in a row because of its exclusion zone.
“There’s not many land-based areas around Sydney Harbour that would give you the exclusive zone that would allow you to do fireworks,” he said.
The Fotu family’s knowledge and passion for the art of pyrotechnics has laid the foundations for a business and operation that is regarded as one of the world’s best fireworks manufacturing-display companies.
While it’s Mr Fotu’s 29th year in the game, he said he still loved the gig because of the pleasure fireworks bring people.
“For the 12-minute display, people aren’t thinking of anything other than enjoying themselves so if we can make people happy that’s what we are there to do,” he said.
City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said this year will be another “spectacular showcase the harbour city” for those enjoying the celebrations in person and for those watching around the world.
“I want us all to begin the year on a high note, and I can’t wait to welcome 2026 alongside Sydneysiders and the visitors who’ve chosen to spend New Year’s Even in our city,” she said.
There will be nine tonnes of fireworks and 25,000 pyrotechnic shots along with aerial shells that will shape shift to form native species including cockatoos, koalas, bottle brush and waratahs.
