A third man has been charged in relation to the Sydney gangland shooting murders of Toufik and Salim Hamze.

Salim, an 18-year-old gangster, and his innocent 64-year-old father Toufik were shot dead in October 2021 in Guildford as they sat in a vehicle outside their Osgood St family home.

Two men – aged 20 and 25 – have previously been charged over their alleged roles in the murders and remain before the courts.

Detectives attached to Strike Force Ormerod on Thursday arrested a third man, 18, and charged him with two counts of murder and one count of participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Police alleged in court on Friday the man, who was 16 years old at the time and cannot be named for legal reasons, was involved in the planning and co-ordination of the murders.

The man was remanded in custody and appeared at Woy Woy Children’s Court on Friday.

The court heard the teenager was already “in custody on other matters” and was not required to appear.

His solicitor sought brief orders before the matter was adjourned to Parramatta Children’s Court on June 23.

The teenager’s solicitor did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Investigations under Strike Force Ormerod are continuing.

Toufik and Salim were inside of a red utility work vehicle in Guildford ready to head to work before they were fatally hit with bullets during the 2021 killings.

Salim died at the scene, while Toufik was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Westmead Hospital, where he later passed.

Police believe Salim was the target of the shooting in retaliation for the killing of a young crime figure attached to the rival Alameddine clan two months earlier in August 2020.

Homicide Squad Commander Danny Doherty said last year Salim’s name had repeatedly come up during investigations into the murder of low-level Alameddine associate Shady Kanj, 22, which also occurred in Guildford, on August 6 2021.

“His name has come up in that (Kanj) investigation and his name’s come up throughout other investigations,” Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

“Unfortunately Salim was the target for the shooting, he was ambushed, and Toufik was the innocent bystander.

“He was the loving father of Salim and ultimately he paid the ultimate price – he is paying for the sins of the son. Salim’s name has come up in a number of our investigations and as a result of that this was a revenge killing.”
