A Rebels bikie has been charged after police allegedly uncovered disturbing footage of a caged cat being shot dead at point-blank range during a broader criminal investigation.
The 29-year-old man was arrested by officers from the Raptor Squad on Tuesday evening following the discovery of the graphic video during a forensic examination of his phone.
It came after police stopped a stolen Hino truck on Woodville Rd in Villawood on June 28, allegedly linked to the man.
Inside, they found balaclavas, bolt cutters and gloves and seized the man’s phone for analysis.
Footage allegedly found on the device showed the execution-style killing of a cat inside a cage, prompting further inquiries.
Police raided a property in Rosemeadow on July 2, seizing a rifle butt, a taser, $18,400 in cash, 170 vials of human growth hormones, CCTV equipment and a Rebels OMCG vest.
The man was charged with a string of offences, including driving a stolen vehicle, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing restricted substances.
He was initially granted conditional bail after an appearance at Parramatta Local Court.
However, following the discovery of the animal cruelty footage, the man was rearrested on Tuesday night and charged with use of an unauthorised prohibited firearm, firing a weapon in a manner likely to cause injury or damage and torturing and killing an animal.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.
