A 35-year-old woman will remain behind bars until she fronts court on Monday over the death of a Nambucca Heads man whose body was found inside a surfboard bag on a property an hour away.

Police will allege Lisa Marie Cunmmings was living with the victim, 62-year-old Mark Myers whose body was found on the driveway of a property in Darkwood, about 67km southwest of Coffs Harbour, on Thursday night.

Police sources say Cummings was paying rent to Mr Myers at his Loftus St home but she was also believed to be in a relationship with him.

Sources say Mr Myers suffered a stab wound but police would not be drawn on the cause of death, saying it was too early to determine.

Emergency services were called to the property in Darkwood after receiving reports that a body had been discovered.

Police attended and found the body of Mr Myers packed into a surfboard bag.

A crime scene was established and officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District – with assistance of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – established Strike Force Nome to investigate Mr Myers’ death.

Police believe the death happened somewhere else and was dumped at the bush location.

On Saturday the remote area where Mr Myer’s body was found appeared deserted, with no sign of police or forensic crews at the scene two days after the discovery.

After extensive investigations officers from the Mid North Coast Police District arrested Cummings at the Loftus St property just after 2pm on Friday.

Cummings was taken to Macksville Police Station and charged with murder (domestic violence).

She was refused bail overnight then appeared briefly in Port Macquarie Local Court on Saturday morning but did not apply for bail.

She was formally refused bail and is expected to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday.

Meantime on Saturday forensic officers spent the day in the Loftus St home and surrounding yard hunting for evidence as shocked neighbours described Mr Myers as a quiet, decent kind of guy.

Mid North Coast police inspector Vince Nicholls said police were in contact with Mr Myers’ family members who were obviously upset and distressed.

He urged anyone with information about the circumstances of his death to contact Crime Stoppers or Mid North Police or Coffs-Clarence Police.
