Carlingford has emerged as one of NSW’s smartest suburbs; with several schools making the NAPLAN top 100 list for 2021.
Carlingford West Public was ranked the best primary school in the Parramatta area, coming in 16th spot with an average of 538 followed by Murray Farm Public at Carlingford in 21st spot (535.8) and North Rocks Public ranked 28th (531.7).
The public schools pipped The King’s School at North Parramatta, which came 46th (523.9). Ermington Public School registered the 82nd spot with an average of 511.6.
Not only were some of the schools celebrating their stellar results but Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) data shows the top performing schools improved their NAPLAN results from 2019.
Carlingford West upgraded by seven places and North Rocks improved by 10 spots. The King’s School stayed consistent with the same rank from 2019 but Ermington Public School’s place dipped after recording 73rd spot and Murray Farm fell from 14th spot in 2019.
Nonetheless, Murray Farm Public School has welcomed the strong results.
Parent Andrew Jefferies, whose daughters Olivia and Caitlin are in Year 6 and Year 3 at Murray Farm Public School respectively, said many families chose to send their children to schools in Carlingford as a stepping stone to selective high schools.
“There are certainly schools within the Carlingford-North Rocks area that have always been highly sought after,’’ he said.
“For many parents, they use these schools as a stepping stone to selective schools in the area as well and that flows to purchasing property in the area and living in the catchment.
“I haven’t seen an agent who doesn’t reference the house as being in a school catchment area.’’
Murray Farm curriculum include a voluntary subject incorporating Japanese into other classes such as maths.
Nine schools in the Cumberland and Parramatta regions also featured in the top 100 list, with many consolidating their results from 2019.
Renowned selective institution James Ruse Agricultural High School maintained its title as the top school for NAPLAN results with an average of 717 but Redeemer Baptist School recorded a staggering improvement to place 41st, with an average of 623.5. In 2019 it was far removed from the top 100 and came in at 178.
Selective school Girraween High came in 11th with an average of 683, a result which saw it jump by one spot from 2019.
Tara Anglican School for Girls at North Parramatta also elevated its ranking by one spot after it placed 27th (620.2), as did the partially selective Parramatta High with a ranking of 51 (612.9), The King’s School with 55th spot (610.8), Al-Faisal College Auburn at 59th (619.4) and Carlingford High, which moved up to 85th spot with an average of 604.5.
Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta improved its ranking from 73 to 71st with an average of 606.2.
