NSW Police have charged a fellow officer and stood the inspector down with pay after he allegedly assaulted two 11-year-old boys on a bus in the state’s west.

The off-duty policeman, a senior officer attached to Western Region, has been accused of attacking the pair of children on a bus between Coolah and Walgett on Saturday, June 22.

Police said in a statement in recent days the man, whose aged was not provided, was on Friday given a future court attendance notice for charges of two counts of common assault.

Police confirmed the inspector was “currently suspended with pay”.

More information will be sought from NSW Police – including the circumstances of the alleged assaults by the highly-ranked officer.

The man is due to face Dubbo Local Court on October 23.
