V'Landys vs. Latham: the explosive moments

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has released details of where 32 bottles of gin have been distributed as “gifts or donated for charity purposes” after days of intense public scrutiny over the issue.

In a statement on Friday the state’s top cop said: “Yesterday I advised Minister Catley my office would no longer distribute bottles of Commissioner’s Gin”.

“On Wednesday, I released a statement regarding an initial order of 50 bottles of Commissioner’s Gin.

“Following a review of stock and of the gift register in the last 24 hours, I can confirm 32 bottles have been distributed as gifts or donated for charity purposes.”

Commissioner Webb provided the full list with names redacted “to protect the privacy of individuals”.

“I have asked that the remaining 18 bottles be donated to Police Legacy for fundraising purposes,” she said.

She confirmed a second order of 50 bottles was identified that had not yet been paid for. “They will be returned, and this process has already begun,” the statement said.

“I have also asked for a comprehensive review of the NSW Police Force gift policies, and I expect this review to be completed in the coming weeks.”

The Commissioner said she wanted to reiterate that the purchase of alcohol for ceremonial gifts and charitable donations was a tradition she continued as Commissioner, “continuing with the same supplier as previously used”

“I was not aware before the first order was placed that the manufacturer was Hope Estate. I fully accept that at the time I became aware, I should have declared my association to the Hope family,” she said.

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission has investigated this issue and not found any evidence of serious misconduct, she said.

“My focus will always be on continuing to serve the people of NSW by focusing on my key priorities – reducing crime, connecting with our community, and supporting victims.”
