Motorcycle crash closes all northbound lanes on M1 near Cooranbong

A serious motorcycle crash has forced the closure of all northbound lanes on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Lake Macquarie, with traffic backing up for kilometres and emergency services on scene.

A motorcycle crash has brought northbound traffic on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Lake Macquarie to a standstill, with all lanes closed and major delays expected throughout the morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene just past Mandalong Rd, near Cooranbong, shortly before 6.45am following reports of the crash.

Northbound lanes are closed at Mandalong Rd in Morisset, with traffic congestion already stretching back several kilometres.

Motorists are being diverted to exit the M1 at Mandalong Rd, use Freeman’s Drive, and rejoin the motorway at Palmers Rd.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area, delay non-essential travel and expect long delays.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.

Emergency services remain on site and traffic crews are working to clear the scene.
