A major inferno has torn through a furniture manufacturing factory in Sydney’s southwest, with more than 100 firefighters working overnight to contain the blaze.

The six-alarm fire erupted just after 11pm at a commercial building in Revesby, sending crews racing to the scene.

The blaze quickly spread to nearby warehouses, forcing emergency crews to establish containment lines.

One city-bound lane on Milperra Road remains closed between Marigold Street and Edgar Street as firefighters continue using aerial appliances to extinguish the remaining hotspots.

A grass fire also ignited at the rear of the factory.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said the response required multiple ladder platforms to bring the situation under control.

“We had a number of ladder platforms at work, that’s where we get the ladder trucks up over the fire to contain it,” Superintendent Dewberry said on 2GB.
