Man shot while driving truck in Sydney’s southwest as police probe links to torched cars

A man is recovering in hospital after being ambushed and shot while behind the wheel of a truck in Sydney’s southwest, with police investigating whether two nearby car fires are linked to the attack.

A man has been ambushed and shot while driving a truck through Sydney’s southwest, with police investigating whether two torched cars found shortly after are connected to the attack.

The 29-year-old was driving along Donald St in Yennora shortly before 11.20pm when a car pulled in front of him and stopped.

Police say a gunman got out of the car and opened fire on the truck, hitting the driver in the wrist and abdomen.

The gunman then fled the scene.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with paramedics treating the man before taking him to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers set up a crime scene and launched an investigation.

Within minutes of the shooting, firefighters responded to two separate car fires, both about 4km away — a black Lexus sedan on Dixmude St in South Granville and another vehicle on Boundary Rd in Chester Hill.

Both blazes were extinguished by firefighters, and police established crime scenes at each location.

Police are investigating whether the shooting and car fires are linked.
