Man dies after suspected road rage incident in Blackett in Sydney’s west

Police have released a description of a white ute whose driver they would like to speak to after a man was killed in a suspected road rage incident near a school in Sydney’s west.

Powerful plea after fatal hit-and-run

A 27-year-old man who was killed in a hit and run in western Sydney was believed to have been dragged about 100m after being struck, in a horrific incident witnessed by nearby school children.

A driver is on the run after the suspected road rage incident near a school in Sydney’s west.

Witnesses claim a driver in a white utility drove at a pedestrian on Jersey Rd at Blackett at about 8.45am and struck him, before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.

The pedestrian, who was wearing a high-vis vest, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Police said the 27-year-old man was dragged about 100 metres after he was struck.

It is understood the pedestrian was initially in a vehicle being pursued by the white ute but he got out and was on foot when he was fatally struck.

The white ute had a metal tray, black canopy and black toolbox with metal racks on top of it, police said.

Mount Druitt duty officer Acting Inspector Shane Renee said police didn’t know if the driver and victim were known to each other.

He said it was believed the 27-year-old got out of his car and “words were said”, before he was struck.

It is understood he was then dragged about 100m away from his vehicle.

Acting Insp. Renee described the scene as “devastating” and said he felt for the victims family.

The victim’s car — a red ute — was inspected at the scene and then towed away just before 1pm.

Police are calling on the driver of the white ute, or anyone with information or dash cam footage, to come forward to police immediately.

Debbie Cremen, who has lived in the area for roughly 25 years, said she’s nearly been hit “numerous times” by cars on Jersey Rd.

“I worked on the crossing here and I’ve nearly been hit numerous times,” she said.

“[In a previous incident] I was walking children across and a car slammed into the street sign, or else the car would of hit me, and another car just ran straight into the back of it.”

Ms Cremen made an emotional plea and urged the driver to come forward.

“I’m asking you as a mum to please come forward, you’ve done the wrong thing you have. But you need to get it off your chest,” she said.

“I’m begging you to please come forward because there is a mum, dad, brothers and sisters that really love this fella and he’s no longer with them.”

The resident said multiple police officers were working to resuscitate the man.

“We’ve come out to have a look and seen Raptor police parked in front of the fella, and they were working on him,” she said.

“At the end of the day I have grandchildren that come, and this road’s pretty notorious.”

Another Jersey Road resident said she didt not see the incident but witnessed paramedics performing CPR on the pedestrian.

She said a group of children, including four high school boys, were standing with a crossing guard, a short distance away when it happened.

“(The crossing guard) was helping a child across the road, so when it happened her back was to the incident … so the child didn’t see anything, but there were high school students behind them that saw it,” she said.

She said the crossing guard was “absolutely devastated” after the event.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the white ute leave the scene is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
