Late-night blaze nearly destroys Umina beach home, firefighters prevent spread to neighbouring properties

Firefighters battled a fierce blaze in Umina Beach late on Sunday night after a home caught alight, forcing five people to evacuate.

Police have launched an investigation after a fire tore through a Central Coast home late on Sunday night, destroying a detached garage and prompting the evacuation of several homes.

Around 11.30pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Bourke Rd, Umina, following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews managed to extinguish the blaze, preventing further structural damage.

While the main residence was spared extensive destruction, the fire completely destroyed a detached garage on the property.

Occupants of the home, as well as nearby residents, were safely evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

Officers from Brisbane Water Police District established a crime scene at the site.

An investigation is now underway to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire.

Five occupants were evacuated from the home. No injuries were reported.
