How Australian Below Deck star Hannah Ferrier dropped 7.5kg in a month

Hannah Ferrier, longtime lead of Below Deck Mediterranean, has opened up about her drastic pre-wedding weight loss, revealing how she shed the kilos.

Below Deck alum Hannah Ferrier had her wedding dress altered no less than six times in the run up to her March wedding to Josh Roberts.

Tireless Sydney dressmaker Nicky Velani told Ferrier she’d have to come in for a fitting two days before the big day, and she’d work around the clock to make sure the gown fit.

“I didn’t give her a lot of notice, and I just kept losing weight,” Ferrier said.

“The dress was very small at the waist, so she had to keep altering.”

Ferrier rocked the boat for five seasons on Below Deck Mediterranean as the toughest chief stew to grace the reality TV high seas, but was fired by her adversary Captain Sandy Yawn in 2020.

Ferrier was dismissed for bringing undeclared prescription drugs on-board, which she was using to manage anxiety.

The Sydney-native is a firm fan favourite whose pot-stirring is sorely missed by the Binge and Foxtel show’s dedicated following.

But with a two-year-old daughter and new husband, Ferrier told The Daily Telegraph her days of full time superyachting are behind her.

“I would always joke with my friends that I can weigh whatever I want when I start filming,” she said.

“On my first season, I dropped 15 kilos and I didn’t have them to lose. My mum almost cried when she saw me, I was way too skinny.

“That physical aspect of your job did keep the weight off and you’re so busy with the demanding guests you forget to eat.”

However, after the birth of daughter Ava, Ferrier said she naturally became bigger than she’d ever been.

“I don’t think I was fat. I was happy being in my little bubble with her.

“But when she was over a year old, I was like ‘You know what? I want to go back to the clothes I used to wear, and not being in massive T-shirts.’”

She tried to diet several times, but said between hosting her podcast, filming The Real Love Boat AU, and family time – she couldn’t make it stick.

“I found that after having my daughter I was reaching for my phone nightly to order dinner in because once you put a baby down at seven o’clock, the last thing you want to do is go and spend an hour in the kitchen.”

With less than a month until her wedding, Ferrier took a punt and signed on for Jenny Craig’s new Max Up program, which incorporates intermittent fasting with their signature calorie-counted meal plans.

“They thought I could lose 6.9 kgs in the first month, and I was in total shock. I actually lost 7.5kg,” she said.

She admits she did often feel hungry, not eating until 9am, after getting up at 6.30 with the baby, but early results spurred her on. Now five months into her journey, she’s lost 11 kgs.

“My advice for anyone trying weight loss is, you just have to pull the trigger. It’s very intimidating, but less so when you have help.”

“It was amazing to walk down the aisle on my wedding day feeling super confident. Even though it wasn’t at my goal weight, I had dropped an entire dress size by then.”
