Grant St, Blacktown fire: Man dead as house goes up in flames

A man is dead after suffering a cardiac arrest and severe burns following a house fire in Sydney’s West. Here is what we know.

Trbiutes have been left for a man who died following a house fire in Sydney’s west on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, police and firefighters rushed to Grant St, Blacktown following reports of a house fire.

Firefighters rescued the man from home before he was treated by NSW ambulance paramedics for severe burns and cardiac arrest but he could not be saved.

The alight home was gutted by the fire despite being quickly extinguished by crews.

Completely guttered by yesterday’s blaze, the Grant St property remained taped off on Sunday,

with a front awning collapsed, paint peeling off the internal walls and the remains of a thick smell of smoke.

A single box of red and yellow flowers had been left for the man under the mailbox.

A crime scene has been established and a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fier and the man’s death is underway.

He is yet to be formally identified.
