Georgie Tunny announced as replacement for Chris Bath at Ten

Former The Project host Georgie Tunny is set to replace veteran newsreader Chris Bath for Ten’s weekend news bulletin.

From the latest Labubu to US politics, Georgie Tunny says she will deliver on all fronts as the new host of Channel 10’s weekend news bulletin.

The former The Project host replaces veteran newsreader Chris Bath, who will finish up at the end of the month and also recently gave up her ABC Radio Sydney drive program to pursue other projects.

“I think I am pretty unique in that way because I genuinely love both of those things,” Tunny said of the diverse topic range.

“I’ve always had such a thirst for every genre possible, so I think that if I’m there delivering you a story about Labubus and why this one is my particular favourite and what I’m really excited for next, you will believe me,” Tunny told Confidential.

“That is great because you need that trust and you need that integrity but I’ve got a political science degree so if I’m going to talk to you about US politics, I can be an authority on that as well.”

Tunny, 34, represents a revitalised take on news presenting at a time when the broadcaster is under pressure in the division and recently cut its new-look weekday news bulletin to 30 minutes.

“I think that this will be news done slightly differently,” she said. “I’m not exactly a typical newsreader, I would say. I do everything with a lot of heart … so I feel like there is an opportunity for there to be not too much personality, but maybe slightly more personality.”

She is a journalist with more than a decade’s experience, having also worked across the ABC, Flash and Fox Sports.

Chris Bath will finish up at the end of the month.

Tunny started her career with a cadetship at The Daily Telegraph’s sister newspaper in Queensland, The Courier Mail.

“I’ve always been part of a line-up, so I think the next step of having a lead role for want of a better word, is really exciting and it’s a huge responsibility and it’s a new challenge that I think I am ready for now,” she said.

“It is definitely a role that younger me would have pinched myself. When I was growing up, that was literally the most far off thing that I could possibly think about. Now to actually be here, it is like: ‘Oh my god’.”

A 2026 wedding may be on the cards, although no plans have been made.
