A dangerous chemical fire that broke out at a factory complex in Ingleburn overnight has been brought under control, as more than 20 firefighters and specialist hazmat crews battled the blaze.
The fire started just after 8pm on Wednesday at a property on Stennett rd, where emergency crews located around 50 intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) alight.
Each IBC is capable of holding up to 1000 litres of liquid, often chemicals.
Acting Superintendent Matt England from Fire and Rescue NSW said the fire posed an immediate threat to an adjoining factory unit.
“The substance in these IBCs is unknown at this stage, however, a number of them are involved in fire,” he said.
Authorities said the fire, fuelled by the chemical containers, was contained within an hour and did not spread to the neighbouring factory, which is understood to produce cleaning products.
The scene was eventually declared safe and the cause of the fire remains unknown and will be investigated.
There are no reports of injuries and it is believed no one was inside the building at the time of the incident.
