A man has been taken to hospital after a brawl inside Accor Stadium, after Manly’s upset win over the Canterbury Bulldogs.
At about 6pm, several people began fighting near the lifts on Level 3, next to the venue’s private suites.
One man had blood pouring from his mouth while another was seen with blood on his jersey.
Up to a dozen security and police descended on the group, while fans were stopped from leaving the venue and locked behind the glass doors for their safety.
One video taken by The Daily Telegraph appears to show a woman standing in the middle of the fighters in a bid to defuse the situation.
In a statement, NSW Police said a 29-year-old from Auburn “suffered facial injuries” and was taken to Concord Hospital for further treatment.
Another 30-year-old from Greenacre suffered “extensive facial injuries” police said, but “declined treatment.”
Auburn Detectives have commenced an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses, particularly those who may have footage of the fight, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Fans’ plans to paint the town blue and white were crushed seven minutes from the final buzzer after the Sea Eagles snatched a 24-22 victory, with dejected supporters leaving Burwood Rd largely deserted.
As the clock ticked down at Canterbury Leagues Club, a sea of blue, white and black clad supporters sat with sombre expressionsand arms folded, as some peeked through their fingers at the screen, and others let out a series of frustrated calls of “Comeon”.
But diehard fan Vito Carrozzo was just happy his team had broken their eight-year finals drought.
“It has b
een a long wait but it’s good to watch the Dogs playing finals footy in September again,” Mr Carrozzo said.
“It feels like another golden era ahead of us in the next decade under (captain Stephen Crichton).”
However, fan Joe Carrozzo said he was just happy to see his Bulldogs break their eight-year finals drought.“They did us proud making it this far, I think we’ll come back bigger and better next year,” he said.
