When police officers arrived at Coelho’s unit on Thursday night, a 25-year-old woman allegedly became uncooperative and she also had to be arrested.
Coelho and the woman were taken to Ryde Police Station where they were both charged.
Police will allege in court Coelho assaulted officers as they attempted to arrest other protesters and pushed a police horse in the face.
He was charged with two counts of assaulting police during public disorder, resisting or hindering police in the execution of duty, committing an act of animal cruelty, joining in an unlawful assembly, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing a prohibited drug.
