DFAT signs us up to United Nation’s radical gender agenda

A radical report threatens free speech rights and women-only spaces, a Coalition senator has said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has signed Australia up to endorse a United Nations report that endorses radical intersectional gender theory and which could be used to deny free speech and demonise women like JK Rowling who have criticised transgender ideology, opponents say.

At a session of the UN Human Rights Council last month, Australia signed up to a statement backing in a report which endorses the idea that “gender is a social construct” and calls on governments to “(ensure) minors have access to recognition of their gender identity” – meaning that they should be allowed to choose their gender on the basis of self-identification alone.

The report, by the tongue-twisting “Independent Expert on Protection Against Violence and Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity”, also echoes the language of university campus activists to endorse intersectional theory and calls for “comprehensive gender and sexuality education.”

And, threatening to undermine the principle of equal protection under law, the report calls on nations to endorse “gender-based approaches” and “demands the adoption of intersectional analysis, the sites of which include laws and policies which claim to be gender-neutral.”

Australia’s signature on the document raises a number of concerns, including that local parliaments may use the cover of the UN report to give radical theory the force of law.

“The Australian government should not be endorsing identity politics and radical gender theory,” said Dr Bella d’Abrera, Director of the Foundations of Western Civilisation Program at the Institute of Public Affairs.

“This is an attack on free speech. This gives a green light for state governments to pass laws which prohibit speech on these important issues,” she said.

“Mainstream Australians would be rightly horrified with an agreement which says that gender is a social construct.”

“Radical ideology has broken free from our universities and is being endorsed by a supposedly conservative government.”

Tasmanian Senator Claire Chandler was equally scathing.

“Gender theory is the language of those who send death threats to JK Rowling, who demand that males be allowed to compete in women’s sports, and who convince governments that it is ‘inclusive’ to place male sex offenders into women’s prisons. It is astounding that DFAT has signed Australia up in support of a report which tells us we must slavishly adopt intersectional gender theory.

“DFAT must be aware that gender theory and this report specifically is of huge concern to millions of people, particularly women, around Australia and the world.

“It is hugely concerning that instead of listening to those women, DFAT has chosen to sign up in support of this report which actively seeks to demonise women who advocate for sex-based rights, services and facilities.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was approached for comment.
