Community mourns Dakodah Williams after fatal Easter crash at Canowindra, NSW

A young woman with the world at her feet and who had dreams of becoming a teacher is being remembered as having “the kindest heart” and being the “light in every room” after she was killed in a crash over Easter.

A young woman with the world at her feet and who had dreams of becoming a teacher is being remembered as having “the kindest heart” and being the “light in every room” after she was killed in a crash over Easter.

Dakodah Williams, 21, died on Easter Sunday morning when her car left the roadway and caught fire along Canowindra Road near Canowindra in the state’s Central-West.

Rural Fire Service NSW officers extinguished the blaze, but tragically, Ms Williams died at the scene.

Described as the “pillar and foundation” of her family, Ms Williams death has left a deep impact on her community, especially on her younger sisters, “who look up to her so much”.

“Dakodah was a light in every room she walked into,” friend Latisha Martyn said.

“This loss will leave a deep hole in all our hearts”.

Ms Martyn said Ms Williams had a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher—a dream she actively pursued through early work experience and through her passionate involvement with children, whom she “absolutely adored.”

Another tribute on social media read: “The world is a cruel mistress, too soon are good souls taken. This world just couldn't contain ur boisterous spirit!.

“One of the kindest hearts I ever met, u [sic] will be missed Dakodah Williams RIP.”

In addition to her dedication to passion for education, Ms Williams was deeply connected to her Wiradjuri heritage.

According to those close to her, she took pride in her culture and had recently reconnected with her artistic side, creating traditional dot paintings on canvases and pots.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
