Accommodation for frontline medical workers is slated for Sydney’s inner west where staff at a major hospital would live less than a 10-minute walk from work.

Convenient accommodation for hospital workers and students has been slated for Camperdown under a $15.8m development.

The accommodation is earmarked for 18-28 Briggs St which is a seven-minute walk to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a 10-minute walk to The University of Sydney.

ACE Property Development Group has pointed out the suitable placement will encourage residents to use public transport, walk or cycle to travel to their places of study or work.

The developers lodged a mixed-used development application to City of Sydney Council this month.

The building will contain 55 self-contained rooms with their own kitchen, bathroom and laundry.

ACE Property Development Group manager Ary Bornoush said the facility would give hospital workers, students and others in similar roles an affordable and secure option to live close to their place of work.

“Places like RPA rely on nurses, support staff and junior doctors working all hours,’’ he said.

“The job’s demanding enough without having to do long commutes or find housing that’s out of reach.

“Being able to walk or cycle to work makes a massive difference to their daily lives, especially when working shifts or being on call.”

Mr Bornoush said there was a push in this part of Camperdown to promote quiet activity in the area and a sense of safety back into the streets.

The development would replace an ageing industrial site and add value to the neighbourhood, he said.

It was designed to give residents their own space, while also providing opportunities for them to connect.

Mr Bornoush said as the ACE company grew, they were proud to introduce high-quality houses to areas lacking those facilities.

The development application is being assessed and the exhibition will close on June 10.
