Bega Valley: Young man dies in Mount Darragh Rd crash

A young man – and front seat passenger – has died in a horror crash on the NSW South Coast when a car careened down an embankment and slammed into a tree.

A young man – and front seat passenger – has died in a horror crash on the NSW South Coast when a car careened down an embankment and slammed into a tree.

Emergency services were called to Mount Darragh Rd, about 50km west of Merimbula, just after 10.30am on Monday following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

A front-seat passenger – believed to be in his 20s – died at the scene.

The driver, also a man in his 20s, was treated at Bega Hospital for suspected internal injuries before being flown to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

South Coast Police District officers launched an investigation with help from the Crash Investigation Unit to look into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Mount Darragh Rd remains closed in both directions, with diversions via the Snowy Mountains Hwy and Imlay Rd. Drivers are advised to check Live Traffic NSW for updates.
