An aged care provider has unveiled plans for a new aged care site in southwest Sydney site to cater for growing demand in the region.

BaptistCare will soon start building a 96-bed aged care home to provide accommodation, care, and services to older people.

Plans include expanding the existing Angus Bristow Village.

The design for the new facility features a homelike atmosphere, where 16 bedrooms will be grouped together and connected to common areas such as a kitchen, dining, and lounge area.

Camden Council forecasts that between 2016 and 2026, the region will experience a 57.4 per cent increase in people of retirement age, with one in five residents over the age of 65.

CEO Charles Moore said it was for this reason BaptistCare had invested in the Macarthur area.

“The masterplan for our Elderslie site shows our commitment to the local Macarthur area, with an investment of approximately $60 million,” he said.

“We see this as vital to ensuring modern and appropriate accommodation is available to older Australians in the community.

“Importantly, the modern aged care home will enable us to deliver best-practice and quality care to older people, and also create employment opportunities in the local community.”

Mr Moore said they were incredibly conscious of the benefits of intergenerational living.

“We want to see our Elderslie site, including the retirement community, community housing tenants, and older people, continue to be part of a vibrant place that champions true community and connection,” he said.

“Both the village and community housing already have community centres onsite to facilitate events and activities, and the new aged care home will similarly feature opportunities for visitors to connect with residents and spend time together in and outdoors.”

The BaptistCare site at Elderslie is already home to residents living in the existing 48 retirement village units, and 175 seniors, single parents and children living in the community housing development.

The new aged care home will include the development of a hair salon, cafe, chapel, health clinic, onsite parking, dementia gardens, and internal courtyards.

Environmental sustainability features of the home would also include electric vehicle charging points for visitors.

The Angus Bristow Village expansion would provide an additional 26 independent living units, taking the total number to 84.

Grindley Construction, an Australian-owned construction group focusing on aged care and retirement living, was appointed as the builder for this development, along with architect firm, Calderflower.

The aged care home is due to become operational in 2024, while construction of the Angus Bristow Village extension will begin in early 2023 and is expected to finish in late 2024.
